Who am I?

This is me, slightly lost...

Hi, I’m Bob Jamieson. I’m currently mid way through a BSc (Hons) in Earth Science at Glasgow University. My particular interests include Organic Geochemistry, Planetary Geology, GIS and Geological Mapping. Recently I’ve also been reading a lot about the traces humanity will leave in the rock record throughout the Anthropocene epoch.

Also, despite a lack of Computer Science education I am keenly interested in technology, and its future effects on human society. I’m currently learning Python and LaTeX in my spare time and used to work part-time as an Apple Campus Rep.

What do I Like?

One of my big passions is reading, I read a lot of Science Fiction (particularly anything by Neal Stephenson, Dan Abnett or Peter David) and some fantasy (Raymond E Feist, Neil Gaiman and Robert Jordan). I particularly enjoy classic science fiction, or books written similarly to the style of HG Wells or John Wyndham.

(My Amazon Wish List)

In my spare time I also flail unconvincingly on the guitar, preferring acoustic and country songs for playing personally (although I do love to rock out on my BC Rich Wartribe). I have essentially no musical talent whatsoever, but it’s a nice relaxing way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Dreams

At some point I’d love to do the travelling around Europe/America thing with some friends, but I’m keenly aware that it’s something I’ll never get around to doing – along with getting good at guitar and owning a motorbike.

In the next few years I’m hoping to do a Masters and/or Ph.D, as well as spending a summer or two doing something a little bit different, like being a park ranger or a bike messenger.

Eventually I’d like to settle down into some sort of Geological Consulting job; where I can travel, work from a nice home in the country and spend my free time tinkering with gadgets in the garage.
